The Shelton girls’ basketball team lost to Capital Saturday 52 to 37.
The Lady Highclimbers held a seven-point lead in the first quarter but the Lady Cougars cut that to four by the end of the first, had a five-point lead in the second, increase the margin to 14 in the third and were up 20 in the fourth.
Capital’s Raegen Henry had a game-high 20 points and Nicole Lindblom add 14.
Abigayle Zaniewski scored 10 points to lead Shelton all in the first half. Carlie Thompson added 9. and Jayde Smith chipped in 7.
The Highclimbers dropped to 4-and-7 on the season 2-and-4 in the South Sound Conference. Shelton travels to Black Hills Monday.
At the 43rd Matman Classic at Central Kitsap High School in Silverdale, Shelton finished 6th in the team standing with six wrestlers placing while North Mason was 13th with two wrestlers placing
The Highclimbers’ Beau Ward placed 2nd at 145 pounds. Robert Allred took 2nd at 152 pounds. Drew Schirman placed 4th at 120 pounds. Cameron MacAlevy was 4th at 132 pounds. Braden MacAlevy finished 4th at 138 pounds. And Michael Gilman took 4th at 170 pounds.
North Mason’s Izaiah Smith placed 4th at 113 pounds while Antonio Pedro-Alonzo finished 4th at 126 pounds.
