NM & SHS Hoops Fall; NM & SHS Wrestling Results
The North Mason boys’ basketball team saw a nine-point lead slip away in fourth quarter of a game against Forks Friday. The Bulldogs lost to the Spartans 60 to 58 in the first day of the North Mason Holiday Invitational.
The boys from Belfair built an eight-point lead in the first quarter but Forks battled back and kept the game close getting their first lead in the third. The Spartans took advantage of North Mason turnovers to keep hanging around but the Bulldogs would make a push and had a nine-point lead with 1:17 remaining in the game. However, Forks ended the game on a 12 to 1 run and came away with the win.
The Spartans were led by Trey Baysinger’s 23 points. Skyler Steffen added 12. And Logan Olson chipped in 11.
North Mason was led in scoring by Miller Campbell’s 23 points and Ethan Collins 13. The pair hit seven three-pointers.
Forks improved to 6-and-2 on the season and they take on Klahowya Saturday on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC. Tip off is 5:15 PM.
The Bulldogs’ record drops to 2-and-6. They play Charles Wright Academy Saturday on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC. Tip off is 7 PM.
Charles Wright Academy and Klahowya went to overtime prior to the NM/Forks game with the Tarriers pulling out the win 38 to 37.
In OT, CWA was 6 for 6 at the free throw line. Nathaniel Hosannah from Charles Wright led all scorers in the game with 15 points. Dane Jacobson hit four three-points to finish with 12 points. The Eagles Preston Roberts finished with 12 points.
At the North Mason Hawkins Memorial Wrestling Classic, the Bulldogs’ Vanessa Navarro, Kaylie Case, Carli Durbin, and Hailey Bradley are in 1st place in their respective weight classes after each won their three round robin bouts.
Kira Schwerzler is in 3rd place after beating Shelton’s Alishia Cliffton but falling in her next two bouts.
The Shelton boys’ basketball team lost to Woodinville Friday in the first round of the Fort Vancouver Holiday Tournament. The Falcons beat the Highclimbers 38 to 23. Shelton drops into the tourney’s consolation bracket and takes on Corvalis at 2 PM Saturday. The Oregon school has a 7-foot-3 center.
At the Pac Coast Wrestling Championships at Mountain View High School in Vancouver, Shelton’s Robert Allred advanced to the semi finals at 152 pounds. Allred pinned his first two opponents and then took a major decision (17 to 4) to advance to the semis against CJ Hamblin from Seton Catholic.
Cameraon MacAlvey made it to the quarter finals at 132 pounds winning three of his four bouts and still alive in the consolation bracket.
Michael Gilman made it to the quarter finals at 182 pounts winning three of his four boutsand still alive in the consolation bracket.
At 138 pounds, Braden MacAlevy won two of his three Championship bouts and is still alive in the consolation bracket after two wins
Beau Ward won two of his three championship bracket bouts at 152 pounds and won his first consolation bracket bout by decision.
Drew Schirman lost in the first round at 120 pounds and was eliminated in the consolation bracket.
Malachi Clifton lost in the first round at 138 pounds. Clifton won his first bout in the consolation bracket before being eliminated in the next bout.
In the team standings heading into the second day, the Highclimbers are 22nd out of 50 teams. Competition resumes Saturday at 10 AM.
The Shelton girls are competing in the North Mason Hawkins Memorial Wrestling Classic. The Highclimbers’ Kayla Fleshman is in 2nd place in her weight class after round robins, pinning her first two opponents but falling in her third bout.
Jazlind Warren is also 2nd in her weight, pinning her first opponent and winning by forfeit in her second bout but falling to North Mason’s Hailey Bradley in her third bout.
Hanna Shrum is 4th losing her three round robins.
Alishia Cliffton is also in 4th in the weight class, falling in her three bouts.
