Defective Equipment Causes Hoodsport Crash

Defective equipment caused a Suburban to hit a power pole on U.S. Highway 101 Friday south of Hoodsport.

The Washington State Patrol reports the crash occurred about 2:30 PM when the 1982 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling southbound on 101. At milepost 333, near Hoodsport Winery, the vehicle’s steering failed and the driver was unable to navigate a curve in the road. The Suburban left the highway to the left, struck a power pole and road sign. The Chevy then rolled down an embankment and struck a carport.

The driver, a 44-year-old man from Box Elder, MT, and his passenger, a 45-year-old woman, were injured. The driver was transported to St. Peters Hospital in Olympia. The passenger was taken to Mason General Hospital in Shelton.
