Football: SHS, NM & MMK Fall

The Shelton, North Mason and Mary M. Knight football teams lost Friday. The Highclimbers were crushed 72 to 0 in Yelm. The Bulldogs couldn’t keep up with Kingston falling 28 to 20. And the Owls lost to South Bend 52 to 12.

Yelm 72, Shelton 0
Yelm was too much for Shelton running up a 72 to 0 South Sound Conference win to maintain second place in the standing. The Tornados took advantage of four Highclimber turnovers, two safeties and held Shelton to 44 yards of offense in securing the win. The Yelm offense ran for 120 yards and threw for 197.

The Tornados improved to 5-and-3 on the season, 5-and-1 in the SSC. The Highclimbers drop to 0-and-8. Yelm wraps up the conference schedule at Timberline next Friday while Shelton hosts North Thurston.

Kingston 28, North Mason 20
The game was close early with each team scoring in the first quarter. Kingston began to slowly pull away in the second quarter, recovering a North Mason fumble in the end zone for its second TD. The Bulldogs responded but the two-point conversion failed and the teams went into the locker room at the half with the Buccaneers up 16 to 14.

In the third quarter, Kingston extended their lead to 22-14 and went up 28-14 in the fourth. The boys from Belfair closed to 28-20 but couldn’t catch the Bucs.

Kingston picked up their second Olympic League win and improved to 3-and-4 on the season. North Mason dropped to 2-and-6 overall, winless in the league play.

The Bucs play at Tenino next Friday while the Bulldogs host winless Port Angeles.

South Bend 52, Mary M. Knight 12
South Bend jumped on Mary M. Knight early and the Indians took care of the Owls 52 to 12. This was SB’s second win over MMK this season. South Bend improved to 4-and-2 on the season. The Indians travel to Lake Quinault next Saturday. Mary M. Knight drops to 2-and-5 on the season. The Owls are off next week and will host a playoff game on November 5th or 6th likely against Darrington.
