Football: SHS & NM Drop Homecoming Games

Shelton’s Zack Jonker catch against Gig Harbor

The Shelton and North Mason football teams lost their Homecoming games Friday. The Highclimbers were shut out by Gig Harbor 52 to 0 while the Bulldogs lost to North Kitsap 40 to 7.

Gig Harbor 52, Shelton 0
Shelton was unable to stop Gig Harbor as the Tide scored on every possession except one and racked up 384 yards of offense. GH used eight different ball carriers and ran for 329 yards. The Highclimbers were held to 64 yards of offense (53 passing, 11 rushing – unofficially).

Gig Harbor improved to 6-and-1 on the season, 4-and-1 in the South Sound Conference. Shelton drops to 0-and-7.

The Tide host SSC leading Peninsula next Friday while the Highclimbers travel to second place Yelm. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC will broadcast the Shelton/Yelm next Friday.

North Kitsap 40, North Mason 7
The battle of the “Norths” was close until the third quarter when the Vikings broke the game open. NK had a 7-0 lead at the half and went up 14-0 early in the second half after taking advantage of a Bulldog turnover. Reece Smelcer got NM on the board on the ensuing kick off but it was all North Kitsap from then on.

North Kitsap improved to 5-and-2 on the season, 4-and-0 in the Olympic League. North Mason dropped to 2-and-5, 0-and-4 in league play. The Vikings host Port Angeles next Friday while the Bulldogs head to Kingston.
