A fishtailing trailer resulted in a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 101 just north of the interchange with State Route 3 Monday that injured three and snarled traffic.
A Washington State Patrol press memo says a 2003 Ford Ranger pickup towing a 19-foot 1974 Roran camper trailer merged onto northbound 101 from SR-3 about 3:30 PM. The trailer started to fishtail and the driver of the pickup lost control. The truck and trailer were forced into the oncoming lane where the small Ford struck a southboudn 2015 Dodge Dart head-on.
According to the memo, the southbound lane of 101 was blocked for two hours with traffic alternating in the northbound lane. However, the highway wasn’t reported as re-opened until about 9:30 PM.
The driver of the Dodge, Larry A. Ody, 53 of Shelton was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
A passenger in the Dodge, Shari E. Rodriguez, 49 of Shelton, was transported by ambulance to Mason General Hospital in Shelton.
The driver of the Ranger, Matt D. Eash, 64 of Elma, was also transported to Mason General Hospital.
Cause of the crash is under investigation.
