State Highway Construction 9/15 to 9/21

The following is a summary of road construction and maintenance scheduled on state highways around Mason County and adjacent areas from September 15, 2019 to September 21, 2019.


US 101 – Coffee Creek – Remove Fish Barrier
Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 346.8
Description: Travelers who use the US 101 Shelton-Matlock interchange will notice orange signs and construction activities as crews will begin efforts to remove fish barriers along Coffee Creek and rebuild two ramps. Drivers are encouraged to watch for trucks entering and exiting the construction zone.  As work progresses, the project later will require a temporary traffic shift on Shelton-Matlock Road west of US 101 near the interchange. This project also will rebuild the southbound US 101 ramps to and from the Shelton-Matlock Road.

Description: Northbound shoulder closure and brief traffic stops in both directions for tree removal.

Highway: SR 3 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 12
Description: One-way alternating traffic for utility work. 
Work Schedule: 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 331.8
Description: Shoulder closure in both directions for sign installation. 
Work Schedule: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 328 to 330
Description: Shoulder closure in both directions for sign installation.

Highway: SR 108 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 10 to 11
Description: Slow moving vehicle in both directions for vegetation management. 
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 16-17.

Highway: SR 106 Region: Olympic County: Kitsap Location: Milepost(s) 7 to 7.5
Description: Shoulder closure in both directions for sign installation.  
Work Schedule: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17. 

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Jefferson Location:  Milepost(s) 292.5 to 292.7
Description: Utility crews for Jefferson County PUD will conduct vegetation management near powerlines which will require one-way alternating traffic with flaggers. 
Work Schedule: 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 16 through Wednesday, Sept. 18.

Description: Slow moving traffic in both directions for Oysterfest. 
Work Schedule: 9a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5-6.

Highway: SR 302 Region: Olympic County: Pierce Location: Milepost(s) 13 to 15
Description: Asplundh tree experts working for Peninsula Light will be doing routine vegetation management beneath the existing power lines along SR 302. Alternating one-way traffic will be in place.
Work Schedule: Each day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 21 – Oct. 4. 

SR 302 – E of Elgin Clifton Rd to SR 16 – Remove Fish Barriers, Paving and ADA Compliance
Highway: 302 Region: Olympic County: Pierce Location: Milepost(s) 10.8 to 16.9
Description: This project removes and replaces three outdated culverts under SR 302 with fish passable structures, repaves 8 miles of SR 302, and rebuilds sidewalks and ramps at the intersections of SR 302 and SR 302 (Spur) through SR 302 and 94th Avenue to comply with the Americans with Disability Act and improve access for all travelers. Drivers can expect up to three weekend closures of the SR 302 Purdy Spit for bridge deck repairs scheduled for summer 2020. The bridge deck work will take place day and night. A signed detour will be in place during construction. Paving and deck repairs will require warm, dry weather conditions. Paving operations will occur overnight, when traffic volumes are less.

  • One-way alternating traffic controlled by flaggers from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. through Friday, Sept. 20.
