State Highway Construction 9/1 to 9/7

The following is a summary of road construction and maintenance scheduled on state highways around Mason County and adjacent areas from September 1, 2019 to September 7, 2019.

Construction
US 101 – Coffee Creek – Remove Fish Barrier

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 346.8
Description: Travelers who use the US 101 Shelton-Matlock interchange will notice orange signs and construction activities as crews will begin efforts to remove fish barriers along Coffee Creek and rebuild two ramps. Drivers are encouraged to watch for trucks entering and exiting the construction zone.  As work progresses, the project later will require a temporary traffic shift on Shelton-Matlock Road west of US 101 near the interchange. This project also will rebuild the southbound US 101 ramps to and from the Shelton-Matlock Road.

Maintenance

Highway: SR 106 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 14 to 15
Description: One-way alternating traffic for combined shoulder and utility work. 
Work Schedule: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Highway: SR 108 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 4 to 11
Description: Slow moving vehicle in both directions for vegetation management. 
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 3-5, and Monday through Thursday, Sept. 9-12.

Highway: SR 300 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) .01 to 3.5 
Description: Slow moving vehicle in both directions striping roadway. Please do not cross wet paint.
Work Schedule: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Highway: SR 3 Region: Olympic County: Kitsap Location: Milepost(s) 35
Description: Northbound shoulder closure for guardrail repair. 
Work Schedule: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Highway: SR 108 Region: Olympic County: Grays Harbor Location: Milepost(s) 3 – 6
Description: One-way alternating traffic with flaggers for mowing.
Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Monday through Thursday beginning Sept. 3 through Sept. 12. 

Highway: SR 108 Region: Olympic County: Grays Harbor Location: Milepost(s) 5 – 5.5
Description: One-way alternating traffic with a pilot car for pavement repairs and mowing.
Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4.

SR 8, US 12 to W of Wilson Rd – Paving
Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Thurston Location: Milepost(s) .01 to 17.2
Description: Crews repaired and repaved areas of SR 8 between Elma and Summit Lake in Thurston County.
Work Schedule: Following a curing process, crews will return Monday, Sept. 9 for installation of striping and guideposts. 

SR 302 – E of Elgin Clifton Rd to SR 16 – Remove Fish Barriers, Paving and ADA Compliance
Highway: 302 Region: Olympic County: Pierce Location: Milepost(s) 10.8 to 16.9
Description: This project removes and replaces three outdated culverts under SR 302 with fish passable structures, repaves 8 miles of SR 302, and rebuilds sidewalks and ramps at the intersections of SR 302 and SR 302 (Spur) through SR 302 and 94th Avenue to comply with the Americans with Disability Act and improve access for all travelers. Drivers can expect up to three weekend closures of the SR 302 Purdy Spit for bridge deck repairs scheduled for summer 2020. The bridge deck work will take place day and night. A signed detour will be in place during construction. Paving and deck repairs will require warm, dry weather conditions. Paving operations will occur overnight, when traffic volumes are less. 

Work Schedule: 

  • Beginning 7 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26 contractor crews will begin efforts to clear and establish a work zone near Minter Creek to build the bypass. Drivers should expect weekday daytime lane and shoulder closures as work progresses.3

Highway: SR 302 Region: Olympic County: Pierce Location: Milepost(s) 13-15
Description: Asplund working for Peninsula Light will remove vegatation under existing power lines on both directions of SR 302 from Creviston Dr. NW to Goldman Dr. NW. Daytime drivers will see one-way alternating traffic controlled by flaggers.
Work Schedule: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, Aug. 21 through Oct. 4. No work will occur on Friday, Aug. 30 or Monday, Sept. 2.
