Wednesday, August 14th, at approximately 2:20 PM, Shelton Police Officers
responded to a reported stabbing at Brewer Park in the 200 block of Franklin Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a male victim in his early twenties that had walked to the nearby fire station for medical aid with an apparent stab wound to his chest. The victim said he knew the suspect and gave responding officers the suspect’s first name. Other witnesses in the area also provided a possible suspect description to the responding officers.
The victim was transported to Mason General Hospital, and later flown to Harbor View Medical Center for treatment. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening at this time.
Within minutes, Mason County Deputies and Shelton Police Officers tracked the possible suspect to an area near Loop Field in the 1000 block of Franklin Avenue, but were unable to locate the suspect. Detectives from Shelton Police Department and Mason County Sheriff’s Office were able to locate the actual crime scene near 4th Street and Franklin Street. Businesses near that location had video surveillance cameras that captured images of the suspect and victim as well as the altercation. After a review of the video surveillance footage, it was apparent that the suspect and victim knew each other and were having an argument prior to the stabbing.
During the next two hours, officers and deputies searched the surrounding areas for the suspect. At approximately 5:00 PM, officers were contacted by a nearby resident who reported that the suspect was in a house in the 700 block of Franklin Street. Officers and deputies converged on the house where the suspect was located hiding in the bathroom. The suspect knew the occupants of the house.
Thanks to cooperation between law enforcement agencies, local businesses, and neighbors, the suspect was apprehended within three hours of the incident. The suspect was booked into Mason County Jail for the assault.
