The Union Bank Fire is now reported as 100 percent contained and the Washington State Department of Natural Resources has lifted all evacuations. DNR crews will remain on scene for the next few days cleaning up and monitoring the fire. The fire is estimated to be around 5-7 acres in size.
The fire was first reported around 7:30 PM Thursday and started near the 4600 block of State Route 106. It moved up the hillside burning trees. About 40 people were evacuated from the area and spent the night at Alderbrook Club House or the New Community Church of Union.
Overnight, crews from Mason County Fire Districts 6, 1, 4, 11 & 18, North Mason Regional Fire Authority, Central Mason Fire & EMS, West Mason Fire, DNR, and Kitsap and Thurston counties protected some 20 structures and continued their containment efforts.
No official word on the cause of the fire.
