As students and their parents get ready for the new school year, it’s important to remember to stay up-to-date on required immunization shots. Mason General Hospital & Family of Clinics is committed to offering patients and community members options when it comes to fulfilling their health care needs. MGH Oakland Bay Pediatrics is pleased to offer two immunization clinics this year prior to the start of the school year.
MGH Oakland Bay Pediatrics will host an immunization clinic from 9 a.m. until the last appointment slot at 11:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24, and Saturday, Sept. 14. The Shelton School District starts school on Monday, Sept. 16, so parents will have a chance to get their children immunized before the school year begins. The clinics are free and open to students entering pre-school up until 18 years of age.
“Immunizations can save your child’s life,” said Clinic Manager Michele Tierney of MGH Oakland Bay Pediatrics. “Because of advances in medical science, your child can be protected against more diseases than ever before. Vaccination is safe and effective. Immunization protects future generations. Vaccines have reduced and, in some cases, eliminated many diseases that killed or severely disabled people just a few generations before.”
MGH Oakland Bay Pediatrics offers two clinics in part because some vaccines require two doses, Tierney added.
Parents are required to bring their child’s previous immunization records. Students must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. No immunization exemptions or waivers will be issued at the clinics. Visit your primary care provider if you wish to obtain an exemption or waiver.
