Drugs or alcohol suspected in a crash early Monday on Highway 106 south of Belfair that severed a utility pole.
The Washington State Patrol says a 2019 Honda HRV was westbound on State Route 106 about 12:30 AM. Near milepost 18, which is between E. Cedar Street and E. Alderwood Road, the SUV left the roadway and struck the utility pole and other objects. The highway was blocked for almost five hours.
The crash knocked out power to over 600 Mason PUD 3 customers in the area. The PUD needed to replace the pole and reported damage to phone and cable lines as well as a water line. Power was restored around 6:15 AM.
A WSP press memo indicates that drugs or alcohol were involved and the driver of the Honda faces DUI charges.
The driver, identified as Anthony I. Wilson, 24 of Belfair, was not injured.
