Highclimber Is WIAA Athlete of Week

Shelton boys’ soccer team’s Alexander Vasquez Vidal was named one of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) Athletes of the Week for Week 33. The sophomore Highclimber put a goal past the keeper in the final minutes in a 1-0 win on April 16th, giving Gig Harbor their first loss of the season. Then against Timberline two days later, he would steal the ball late in the game and find the back of the net, leading his team to a 3-0 shutout victory.

The Shelton boys’ soccer team plays Evergreen Saturday in the 3A WCD/SW Tournament. The game kicks off at 1 PM at North Mason High School in Belfair. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC will broadcast the play off game live.

Each week throughout the school year, the WIAA recognizes varsity athletes who exhibited an outstanding performance for the previous week (based off of nominations). All varsity level students in good academic standing at their schools are eligible to receive the WIAA/Wendy’s Athlete of the Week Award. Students may win the award once during any given academic year.

Nominations are open to athletic administrators, coaches, fans and members of the media, with a weekly deadline of Tuesday at noon PT.
