For the second years in a row, Mary M. Knight’s Kaylee Sowle earned female athlete of the meet at the 59th Annual Shelton Invitational Track and Field meet Saturday.
The senior from Matlock won the High Jump (tying her meet record with a jump of 5 feet 8 inches), the Long Jump and the Triple Jump.
Sowle has committed to Washington State University.
The Owls’ Austin Fries took 2nd in the boys’ Triple Jump. In the team standings, the MMK girls finished tied for 6th place while the boys were 22nd out of 36 teams.
The Shelton girls were 4th in the team results while the Highclimber boys placed 12th. Top placing ‘Climbers:
Victoria Sliverman was the girls’ 300-meter hurdles and was 5th in the 100-meter hurdles.
McKenzie Salazar-Fox won the girls’ shot put and was 6th in the discus.
Brock Knowles placed 2nd in the boys’ 800 meters.
The relay team of Austyne Cralle, Trinity Payment, Kamen Nicklaus and Victoria Silverman finished 4th in the girls’ 4 x 100.
Trinity Payment was 5th in the girls’ long jump.
William Johnson finished 5th inthe boys’ 1 mile.
Alauna Carsten took 6th in the girls’ 1 mile.
The North Mason boys finished tied for 13th in the team standings while the Lady Bulldogs were 22nd.
Top placers from Belfair:
Noah Hasselblad finished 3rd in the boys’ 3200 meters and was 6th in the 1 mile.
Carli Durbin took 5th in the girls’ javelin.
Christopher Ramey was 5th in the boys’ long jump.
Kira Schwerzler placed 6th in the girls’ 400 meters.
The relay team of Kira Schwerzler, Isabella Porter, Sierra Morin and Morgan Shumaker took 6th in the girls’ 4 x 400.
The male athlete of the meet went to Gig Harbor’s Jurrian Hering who won the 110-meter Hurdles in State Leading time of 14.21a (into a fairly stong headwind) and won the 100-meter dash in 10.97a
The top teams were the Central Kitsap girls and the Gig Harbor boys.
