A pursuit of a stolen vehicle Friday Morning went from the Dayton area through Shelton and ended near Union.
According to authorities, a blue Chevrolet Avalanche pick up was reported stolen earlier in the morning. A Mason County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted the stolen truck on Shelton Matlock Road near Carmen Road North about 10:20 AM and attempted to stop it. However, the suspect driver failed to stop, instead he rammed the Deputy’s patrol vehicle and a pursuit ensued.
A Shelton Police vehicle took over the pursuit in the City of Shelton where the Sheriff’s Office says the fleeing driver hit a parked car and continued to run. The pursuit continued to the Union area and onto westbound Highway 106. At milepost 2, the Shelton officer ended the pursuit with a PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) maneuver on the stolen Chevy. The Avalanche struck the eastbound ditch and rolled, coming to rest on its wheels.
The only injuries were to the driver of the stolen truck. He was transported to Mason General Hospital in Shelton.
The State Patrol identifies the suspect driver as James R. Kingsland, 41 of Spokane.
Kingsland was reportedly booked into Mason County Jail on charges of stealing a vehicle and eluding law enforcement.
The stolen truck was totaled.
Assisting the Mason County Sheriff’s Office and the Shelton Police with the chase were the Washington State Patrol, Washington Department of Fish and Wild Life (WDFW) and Squaxin Tribal Police Department.
