After increases in November, December, January and February, Mason County’s unemployment rate dropped in March. According to the Washington State Employment Security Department, the County’s unemployment rate last month was 7.3 percent. That’s down seven-tenths of a percentage point from February’s revised rate of 8 percent but a half percent higher than the March 2018 rate of 6.8 percent.
Adjacent counties also saw dips in unemployment rates. Kitsap (5.2%) and Thurston (5.4%) counties saw a drop of one-tenth of a percent. Grays Harbor (8.3%), Jefferson (6.7%) and Pierce (5.7%) counties saw three-tenths of a percent decrease in unemployment in March. And Lewis County had a half percent drop to 7.2 percent.
