Mason County officials are reviewing the recommendations from two groups to see what can be applied to future budgets to increase the County’s revenues.
Last year, the County Commissioners appointed a Citizens Budget Advisory Committee to review all aspects of the county and create recommendations for funding all county departments. Topping the Advisory Committee’s recommendations is a multi-year property tax levy lid lift with secondary recommendations to for a County-wide Metropolitan Park District, a criminal justice levy and/or a public safety sales tax.
In 2014, the Mason County Public Safety and Criminal Justice Task Force also presented the County Commissioners with funding recommendations. The Task Force’s recommendations included increasing the amount of funds shifted from the Road Levy to the General Fund, a levy lid lift, and a county-wide Metropolitan Park District.
Monday, Frank Pinter, Director of Support Services for the County, briefed two of the three Commissioners on the reccommendations they are considering.
Some of recommendations require voter approval and those measures need to be placed on a Primary Election or General Election ballot. In order to make the August Primary, the County Commissioner need to pass a resolution by early May.
Pinter will be making another briefing on these funding recommendations next Monday with a resolution possible coming to the commission for approval next Tuesday.
