SHS Baseball Loses, Wins for NM Softball & Baseball

The Shelton baseball team lost a rain shortened non-conference game Friday falling to Brewster 5 to 3 in five innings.

The Highclimbers got on the board first in the 2nd inning. Brenden Wagner had a sacrifice fly to center that scored Austin Ramsfield. Ty Smotherman batted in the other two runs on a single that scored Matthew Osberg and Josh Deemer.

The Bears responded in the 3rd inning scoring three runs on three consecutive singles with two outs. Those RBI singles were by Mason Kelly, Cade Gebbers and Conner Ashworth.

Brewster added a run in the 4th inning on sacrifice fly by Quincy Vassar. And their final run was scored in the 5th inning after Kade Keplman reached on an error.

For the Bears, Cade Gebbers was 2 for 2 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Mason Kelly was 1 for 2 with an RBI and scored two runs. Connor Ashworth was 1 for 1 with an RBI. And Quincy Vassar batted in a run.

Shelton’s leaders were Trey Dehning who was 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and a run scored. Ty Smotherman was 1 for 2 with two RBI. Matthew Osberg was 1 for 2 and scored a run. Austin Ramsfield was 1 for 3. Brenden Wagner batted in a run. And Josh Deemer scored a run.

The Highclimbers dropped to 2-and-4 on the season. They return to South Sound Conference play Tuesday at home against Peninsula.

The North Mason fastpitch softball team slipped by Bremerton Friday 6 to 5 on a three-run walk-off home run by Tuesday Palmer. The Lady Bulldogs were down 5 to 3 in the bottom of the 7th inning. Amber Johnson walked to lead off the inning. Jill Maiuri singled with a ground ball to right field. Then Palmer ended it with the homer to left field. Palmer went 3 for 4 at the plate and batted in four runs. She also pitched seven innings allowing five runs on eight hits, striking out five and walking two. North Mason improved to 2-and-4 ont he season, 1-and-1 in the Olympic League. The Bulldogs host Klahowya Monday.

The North Mason baseball team pulled away from Bremerton Friday as the Bulldogs beat the Knights 6 to 2 for their first Olympic League win. Bremerton scored their runs in the 1st inning. North Mason tied the game in the 3rd inning one an RBI single by Trevor Deardorff and on a hit batter with the bases loaded. The Bulldogs took the lead in the 5th inning on a two-run double by Jakob Stark and an RBI triple by Ethan Collins. The boys from Belfair added their sixth run in the 6th inning on a passed ball. Stark finished with three RBI. Mason Fisher picked up the win in relief. North Mason improved to 3-and-5 on the season, 1-and-2 in league play. The Bulldogs host Kingston Wednesday.
