The Shelton baseball team picked up its second win in Oregon Saturday as the Highclimbers knocked off Rainier 8 to 2 behind the play of Max “Falcon” Johnson.
Johnson went 3 for 3 at the plate with a double and four RBI. Johnson drove in runs on a sacrifice fly in the first, a double in the fourth, and a single in the seventh. The senior also picked up the win on the mound, allowing two runs on three hits in three innings striking out three and walking three.
Brenden Engstrom threw four hitless innings in relief, striking out nine. Engstrom also batted in a run and scored two runs.
Brenden Wagner was 2 for 2 with an RBI.
As a team, Shelton pounded out 13 hits with Caeleb Hitsman, Austin Ramsfield, Ty Smotherman, Matthew Osberg, Trey Dehning, Josh Deemer, and Evan McCullough each with one hit.
The Highclimbers are now 2-and-1 on the season. They open South Sound Conference play Tuesday at Capital.
The North Mason baseball team slipped by Tenino Saturday 2 to 1. The Bulldogs took advantage of five Beaver errors scoring their first run in the 3rd inning and their second run in the 7th. Brenden Kimball picked up the win on the mound for the boys from Belfair, pitching a complete game allowing one run on two hits, striking out 14 and walking two. Kimball was 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and a run scored. Troy McCormick was 1 for 3 and scored NM’s other run. Mason Fisher, Jakob Stark and Mason Shumaker had a run each. The Bulldogs improved 2-and-3 on the season. They travel to Aberdeen Monday.
