Mason County Track Jamboree Results; SHS Baseball Wins in Oregon;

The three high schools in Mason County participated in a track and field jamboree Friday at Highclimber Stadium in Shelton. Here are the winners from the meet:

  • North Mason’s Athoney Arreola won the boys’ 100 meters and the boys’ 200 meters.
  • Mary M. Knight’s Kaylee Sowle took the girls’ 100 meters and the girls’ high jump.
  • Shelton’s Tyler Youngquist won the boys’ 400 meters.
  • North Mason’s Kira Schwerzler took the girls’ 200 meters and the girls’ 400 meters.
  • North Mason’s Savannah Knutson won the girls’ 800 meters.
  • Shelton’s Brock Knowles tooke the boys’ 800 meters.
  • Shelton’s William Johnson won the boys’ 1500 meters.
  • Highclimber freshman Alauna Carsten took the girls’ 1500 meters.
  • The girls’ 100-meter hurdles and the girls’ 300-meter hurdles went to North Mason’s Isabella Porter.
  • The boys’ 110-meter hurdles and the boys’ 300-meter hurdles went to Shelton’s Domoniq Monette.
  • Shelton’s Jazlin Warren won the girls’ shot put.
  • The boys’ shot and the boys’ discus put went to Shelton’s Kyle McGregor.
  • The girls’ discus was won by Shelton’s Anna Schuman.
  • North Mason took the javelin with Carli Durbin winning on the girls’ side and Miller Campbell taking the boys.
  • The boys’ high jump was won by the Bulldogs’ Nathan Fjeld.
  • Shelton’s Trinity Payment took the girls’ long jump.
  • North Mason’s Christopher Ramsey won the boys’ long jump.
  • The Highclimbers’ Austyne Cralle topped the girls’ triple jump.
  • The Bulldogs’ Seth Conner took the boys’ triple jump.

Shelton’s first meet is Wednesday at Capital.
North Mason hosts Port Angeles and Port Townsend Tuesday.

The Shelton baseball team picked up its first win of the season Friday in Oregon. The Highclimbers held off Aloha 8 to 5 in Beaverton.
Shelton scored four runs in the 2nd inning. With two out and runners at the corners, Trey Dehning scored on a wild pitch, Caeleb Hitsman had an RBI double, and Ty Smotherman hit a two-run single.
The ‘Climbers added a run in the 4th. Again with two outs, Smotherman walked, stole 2nd and scored on a Brenden Engstrom single.
And went up three more in the 5th. With one out, Josh Deemer reached on a dropped third strike. Max Johnson reached on an error. Deemer scored on a Nate Farr fly ball to left. The last two runs were scored after the Warriors walked the bases loaded and back-to-back hit batters. Shelton had an 8 to 0 lead.
Aloha was able to score five runs in the bottom of the 5th getting to Highclimbers relief pitcher Ty Smotherman.
The game was called after six innings.
Shelton leaders:
Brenden Engstrom went 2 for 2 at the plate with two RBI.
Ty Smotherman was 1 for 2 with two RBI and scored a run.
Caeleb Hitsman was 1 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Nate Farr was 1 for 1 with an RBI and a run scored.
Max Johnson was 2 for 3 at the plate.
Max “Falcon” Johnson picked up the win for the Highclimbers pitching four innings allowing no runs no hits while striking out four and walking three.
Austin Ramsfield earned the save pitching an inning.
The Highclimbers are now 1-and-1 on the season and continue their Oregon road trip Saturday and play Rainier at 1 PM.

The Shelton girls’ tennis team lost at Tumweater 6 to 0. The Lady Highclimbers travel to Peninsula Thursday.

The North Mason boys’ soccer team shut out Olympic Friday six-nil (6 to 0) to open league play. The Bulldogs improve to 2-1-and-1 on the season. They travel to Kingston Monday.
