Wins for SHS Softball & Soccer, Loss for NM Baseball

The Shelton fastpitch softball team held off Lakes Thursday 8 to 4 in their home opener.

The Lady Highclimbers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning. Alex Walters batted in Taya Gouley with two-out to start the scoring with Walters and Pheonix Miller crossing the plate on errors.

Shelton added two more runs in the 3rd when Camryn Hyland batted in Gouley with a double and scored on a wild pitch.

The Lancers got on the board in the 4th when Haley Rusboldt batted in Baylee Blau.

The ‘Climbers added answered with a run in their half of the 4th with two-out when Maleah Walsh reached second on a dropped fly ball that scored Carly Van Aagten.

Lakes cut Shelton’s lead to two in the 6th inning when Mackenzie Crosby had an RBI single followed by Treasure Freeman’s two-run double.

The Highclimbers answered with two runs in their half of the 6th. Kayla Zembas scored on a Patricia Dugger single and Walsh was hit by a pitch with two out and scored on a wild pitch.

Shelton pitcher, Camryn Hyland, then shutdown the Lancers in order to end the game.

Highclimber leaders:
Taya Gouley went 3 for 4 at the plate and scored two runs.
Alex Walters was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Phoenix Miller went 2 for 3 and scored a run.
Camryn Hyland was 1 for 4 with an RBI double and a run scored. Pitched 7 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and struck out 4.
Patrica Dugger ws 1 for 3 and scored a run.
Kayla Zemas was 1 for 3 with a run scored.

Lakes leaders:
Treazure Freeman went 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBI.
Mackenzie Crosby was 3 for 3 with a triple and a run scored
Haley Rusboldt was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Madi Emery went 1 for 3 and scored a run. Pitched 7 innings allowing allowing 8 runs on 10 hits, striking out 10 and walking three.
Baylee Blau was 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored.

Shelton is 2-and-0 on the season. They continue non-conference play Monday at North Kitsap.

The Shelton boys soccer team opened their season with a 3 to 2 win over Peninsula Thursday. The Highclimbers host Rochester Monday.

The North Mason baseball team dropped their Olympic League opener Thursday to Port Angeles 9 to 4. The Roughriders scored six runs in the first inning and were up 7-0 before the Bulldogs’ Beau Criess scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Preston Macomber in the 5th inning. PA added two more runs in the 6th inning. In the 7th inning, the boys from Belfair had the bases loaded with two out when Brenden Kimball hit a three-run triple but NM couldn’t keep the rally going. The Bulldogs are now 1-and-3 on the season. They travel to Tenino Saturday.
