The unemployment rate in Mason County increased in January. According to the Washington State Employment Security Department, the County’s unemployment rate for the first month of 2019 was 7.4 percent. That’s up six-tenths of a percentage point from the revised rate for December 2018 of 6.8 percent but the same as January 2018’s rate.
Adjacent counties saw similar increases in unemployment in January. Grays Harbor (8.2%) and Jefferson counties unemployment rose seven-tenths of a percent. Thurston (5.5%) and Lewis (7.4%) counties saw increases of a half percent. And Kitsap (5.3%) and Pierce (5.8%) had their employment rates go up four-tenths of a percent in January.
