The Shelton Police Department has issued a warning to aggressive drivers.
During the past week, Shelton Police have seen a notable increase in the number of complaints received from pedestrians regarding aggressive drivers. Several reports have been filed on motorists failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Most of the complaints have been in areas experiencing higher than normal traffic volumes due to the closure of Olympic Highway North.
“We’re all looking forward to the completion of the roadway improvements,” said Captain Mike Fiola. “It’s important to remember that we’re in this together as a community. We don’t want anyone getting hurt. Please stay alert, take a deep breath if you need to, and watch for
pedestrians attempting to cross the street.”
Department leaders have asked officers to increase time spent monitoring intersections near construction areas. Officers will be watching for traffic violations and enforcing all applicable laws. The fine for failing to yield a pedestrian is $136. Reckless driving is a criminal offense.
