[VIDEO] The Mason County Commission along with representatives from Grays Harbor County and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office heard a presentation from KMB Architects on building a regional jail Wednesday. During the two-hour briefing, KMB representatives showed those in attendance the process they would use to determine the best option (a new jail in each county or a regional facility); what type of offender housing (a dorm or individual cells); and how to fund construction (council-approved bond or voter approved bond/levy).
Officials with Mason and Grays Harbor counties are looking into options to deal with over crowded and outdated jails. If KMB is hired, they would begin a review process that would take about seven months which would result in plans and construction costs. KMB would also assist the counties with financing options, community outreach and construction – the same way they did for the Shelton and Grapeview school districts.
