The unemployment rate in Mason County increased in December. According to preliminary numbers from Washington State Employment Security, the County saw a seven-tenths of a percentage point increase in unemployment last month to 6.7 percent, up from November’s revised rate of 6 percent but the same as December 2017.
Adjacent counties also saw increases in unemployment in December. Grays Harbor had a nine-tenths of a percent increase to 7.4 percent. Lewis County’s unemployment rate was up eight-tenths to 6.9 percent. Jefferson County saw a half percent increase to 5.9 percent. The unemployment rate in Kitsap (4.9%) and Pierce (5.3%) counties went up four-tenths of a percent in December. And Thurston County had a 5 percent unemployment rate which was up three-tenths.
