Basketball: SHS Boys Win; Girls Lose; Losses for NM; Wins for MMK; SHS Bowling Win
The Shelton boys’ basketball team swept the season series with Peninsula Friday as the Highclimbers knocked off the Seahawks 71 to 65. The ‘Climbers move into third place in the South Sound Conference at 5-and-3 (9-and-5 overall). Shelton returns to the Mini Dome Wednesday hosting Yelm on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.
The Shelton girls’ basketball team was held to seven points in the first quarter and Peninsula took advantage of 18 first half turnovers as the Seahawks beat the Highclimbers for the second time this season 62 to 49.
Despite being behind by 17 at the half, the ‘Climbers played the Hawks evenly in the second half.
Sophomore Piper Bauer had a game-high 18 points to lead Peninsula. Linsey Lovrovich added 14. Belle Frazier chipped in 12. And Esther Pappuleas score 10.
Taya Gouley led Shelton in the loss hitting five three-pointers and finishing with 15 points. Jayde Smith added 12 points. And sophomore Breanna Salazar scored 10.
The Lady Highclimbers drop to 3-and-10 on the season, 2-and-6 in the South Sound Conference. Shelton hosts Mercer Island Monday in a non-conference game on MasonWebTV Powered by HCC.
The Shelton girls bowling team picked up their 14th win of the season Friday knocking off Tumwater 5 to 0. The Lady Highclimbers have now won 11 straight and wrap up the regular season Tuesday against Central Kitsap at All Star Lanes in Silverdale. The South Sound Conference Bowling Tournament is next Friday at Westside Lanes in Olympia.
The North Mason boys’ basketball team lost at Olympic Friday 55 to 41. The Bulldogs drop to 6-and-8 on the season, 1-and-6 in the Olympic League. The boys from Belfair host Sequim Tuesday.

The Mary M. Knight boys’ basketball team held North River to 8 points in the first quarter and cruized to an 81 to 45 1B Coastal League win Friday. The Owls are now 4-and-0 in league play, 8-and-5 overall. The MMK boys travel to Oakville Tuesday.
The Mary M. Knight girls’ basketball team improved to 10-and-1 Friday with a 54 to 17 win over North River. The Lady Owls are now 4-and-0 in the 1B Coastal League. The girls from Matlock travel to Adna Monday.
