Two Die in 101 Crash near Purdy Cutoff Road

A man and a woman from Bremerton died Wednesday morning in a crash with a log truck on U.S. Highway 101. A Washington State Patrol press memo says a 1996 Saturn four-door car was northbound on 101 about 5:20 AM. At milepost 340, the car crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound 2008 Kenworth log truck. Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway. U.S. Highway 101 was closed for approximately five hours.

The driver of the Saturn, identified as Stephen John Jacobson, 65 of Bremerton, and his 64-year-old female passenger (her name has not been released pending notification of next of kin) died at the scene.
The driver of the log truck, Todd Eugene Dewey, 44 of Port Angeles, was not injured.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
