The Shelton boys’ basketball team won a close game at Auburn Riverside Friday night 58 to 55.
In the first half, the class 4A Ravens maintained a one to three-point margin over the class 3A Highclimbers and led 24 to 23 at the half.
In the third quarter, the ‘Climbers grabbed the lead by four but ARS responded and went up by five.
The fourth quarter was back and forth but in the end Shelton’s defense forced Auburn Riverside to turn the ball over at critical times. The Ravens failed to execute on their final possession and didn’t get off a shot as time ran out.
The Highclimbers were once again lead in scoring by Ty Thompson who finished with 19 points. Tyler Auld added 12 points off the bench. Shelton hit 19 of 48 shots from the field (39.5%) but only hit 9 of 19 free throws (47%).
The Ravens, who rely on the three-pointer, were 18 of 44 from the field (41%) but only 6 for 24 from beyond the arch (25%). ARS was led in the loss by Dan Ramirez who finished with 18 points but was held to just two free throws in the fourth quarter. Julis Cain added 15 points.
The ‘Climbers improved to 7-and-1 on the season. The Ravens drop to 3-and-6.
Next week, Shelton will be playing in the Ft. Vancouver Holiday Tournament. They open play at 4 PM Thursday against North Creek.
The North Mason basketball teams won at Klahowya Friday. The Lady Bulldogs beat the Lady Eagles 47 to 33 while the boys from Belfair won 47 to 43.
After starting the season 5-and-0, the NM girls are now 7-and-4 on the season. They are off until January 4th when they host Port Angeles. The NM boys are 5-and-5 and host Washington in non-league action January 2nd.
