The following is a summary of road construction and maintenance scheduled on state highways around Mason County and adjacent areas from December 16, 2018 to December 22, 2018.


 US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 324.4
Description: One-way alternating traffic for utility work. 
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 331.8 to 337

Description: One-way alternating traffic or shoulder closures for utility work 
Work Schedule: 8 a.m.  to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, Dec. 17-21.

Highway: SR 106 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 12.1
Description: One-way alternating traffic with flaggers for utility work to repair a telecommunications line.  
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14.

Highway: SR 108 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 4.1 to 12
Description: Slow moving vehicle for in both directions for shoulder maintenance.
Work Schedule: Noon to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17.

Highway: SR 108 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 9.7 to 11.8
Description: Utility crews for Mason County PUD #3 will raise existing power lines along SR 108 between Hurley Waldrop Road and the US 101 interchange. Weather permitting, drivers may encounter one-way alternating traffic with flaggers and should expect minor delays. 
Work Schedule:  8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each weekday through Thursday, Feb. 28. No work will occur:

  • Monday, Dec. 24- Tuesday, Dec. 25
  • Tuesday, Jan. 1
  • Monday, Jan. 21
  • Monday, Feb. 18

Highway: SR 119 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 0.8 to 10.9
Description: One-way alternating traffic with flaggers as utility crews for Hood Canal Communications replace communications lines. 
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each weekday beginning Monday, Jan. 7 through Friday, May 10.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Thurston Location: Milepost(s) 367.3
Description: Southbound US 101 on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close for guardrail repair. Drivers will detour via southbound I-5 and Trosper Road Southwest. 
Work schedule: 11 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, until 5 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19.

Highway: SR 8 Region: Olympic County: Grays Harbor Location: Milepost(s) 0 to 10.5
Description: Slow moving vehicle in the right lane of SR 8 in both directions for shoulder maintenance. 
Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m. to noon Monday, Dec. 17.

Description: Slow moving vehicle in the left lane of SR 8 in both directions for shoulder maintenance. 
Work Schedule: 7 a.m. to noon Thursday, Dec. 20.

SR 8 – Middle and East Forks Wildcat Creek – Remove Fish Barriers
Highway: SR 8 Region:Olympic County: Grays Harbor Location: Milepost(s) 4.3 to 7.5
Description: The eastbound lanes were reconfigured to accommodate both directions of traffic to allow crews to replace outdated culverts under SR 8 to improve fish passage for Middle and East Fork Wildcat Creek.
Work Schedule:  Work is now complete.

US 101 – Old Gardiner Rd to N of W Uncas Rd – Paving and Bridge Deck Repair
US 101 Region: Olympic County: Jefferson Location: Milepost(s) 275.8 to 283.9
Description: Overnight single-lane closures each Sunday through Thursday as crews repave nearly 8 miles of US 101 from east of the Clallam-Jefferson County line to north of the US 101/SR 104 interchange. Project page.

This work aims to extend the life of the roadway, which hasn’t been resurfaced in nearly 20 years. 

In addition to repaving the highway, crews will make deck repairs, including replacing expansion joints, to the US 101 Salmon Creek Bridge and US 101 Snow Creek Bridge. 

Work Schedule: 

  • Eastbound US 101: 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. each Sunday through Thursday from early spring through late summer 2019. 
  • Westbound single lane closures will occur through 9 a.m. each Sunday through Thursday for the same time period.
