[VIDEO] Mason County’s Citizens Budget Advisory Committee made recommendations Tuesday to the Mason County Commission.
Those recommendations for the next budget cycle include giving the highest priority for funding to criminal justice and public safety. The Committee also recommends a citizen-led multi-year property tax levy lid lift to the maximum amount possible for criminal justice and public safety. Other recommendations are annual review of fees, aggressive pursuit of grants, a voter approved county-wide Metropolitan Park District, a six-year criminal justice levy including a sales tax increase for a jail facility and other criminal justice needs, look at regional juvenile justice services, and find ways for county employees to be more efficient.
The County Commissioners thanked the committee for their work and will look into implementing some of those recommendations for 2020 and beyond.
