State Highway Road Construction 12/9 to 12/15

The following is a summary of road construction and maintenance scheduled on state highways around Mason County and adjacent areas from December 9, 2018 to December 15, 2018.

Maintenance

Highway: SR 108 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 9.7 to 11.8
Description: Utility crews for Mason County PUD #3 will raise existing power lines along SR 108 between Hurley Waldrop Road and the US 101 interchange. Weather permitting, drivers may encounter one-way alternating traffic with flaggers and should expect minor delays. 
Work Schedule: 8 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. each weekday through Thursday, Feb. 28. No work will occur:

  • Monday, Dec. 24- Tuesday, Dec. 25
  • Tuesday, Jan. 1
  • Monday, Jan. 21
  • Monday, Feb. 18

Highway: SR 3 vicinity Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 1 to 3
Description: The City of Shelton has various projects off SR 3 towards downtown Shelton. View their project webpage for more information about detours and lane closures. 

Highway: SR 302 Region: Olympic  County: Pierce  Location: Milepost(s) 6.1 to 7.7
Description: Local utility company is placing aerial communication lines on existing poles adjacent to SR 302. Daytime drivers will see alternating one-way traffic.
Work Schedule: Weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, Dec. 4 through Tuesday, Dec. 11.  

Construction

SR 8 – Middle and East Forks Wildcat Creek – Remove Fish Barriers
Highway: SR 8 Region: Olympic County: Grays Harbor Location: Milepost(s) 4.3 to 7.5
Description: The eastbound lanes were reconfigured to accommodate both directions of traffic to allow crews to replace outdated culverts under SR 8 to improve fish passage for Middle and East Fork Wildcat Creek.
Work Schedule:  Work is now complete.

US 101 – Old Gardiner Rd to N of W Uncas Rd – Paving and Bridge Deck Repair

US 101 Region: Olympic County: Jefferson Location: Milepost(s) 275.8 to 283.9
Description: Overnight single-lane closures each Sunday through Thursday as crews repave nearly 8 miles of US 101 from east of the Clallam-Jefferson County line to north of the US 101/SR 104 interchange. Project page.

This work aims to extend the life of the roadway, which hasn’t been resurfaced in nearly 20 years. 

In addition to repaving the highway, crews will make deck repairs, including replacing expansion joints, to the US 101 Salmon Creek Bridge and US 101 Snow Creek Bridge.
