The Shelton Police Department has partnered with Walmart for the annual Shop With A Cop event on Saturday, December 1st at 8:30 AM. Walmart has generously donated $5,000 to provide a number of local children with the opportunity to shop for their families as part of the upcoming holidays.
Shop with a Cop provides a fun filled day for children in need while creating positive relationships with law enforcement. This unique December shopping experience assists children and can deter them from choosing a life of crime or violence. Participating children are identified by schools, churches, youth organizations, and social services agencies.
On the day of the event, uniformed officers from the Shelton Police Department volunteer their time to partner with children while they shop for their families. After the shopping is done, Walmart will be hosting a cookies and milk event, and a number of gift wrapping stations for the children to wrap their presents before taking them home.
“This is an incredible opportunity for children to interact with police officers as people,” Said Chief Darrin Moody. “A portion of these children may have had some interaction with the police department, whether it be from family members or otherwise, and it may not have been a positive experience. Now we’re going to show them the positive side while we have some fun shopping.”
Residents that are aware of a child in need who may benefit from the Shop with a Cop program are encouraged to contact Shelton Police Chief Darrin Moody at firstname.lastname@example.org.
