State Highway Road Construction 11/4 to 11/10

The following is a summary of road construction and maintenance scheduled on state highways around Mason County and adjacent areas from November 4, 2018 to November 10, 2018.


US 101 – Lynch Road – Safety Improvements
US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 352.5
Description: Crews finalized roadway modifications to help increase sight distance for Lynch Road drivers merging onto southbound US 101 and opened new acceleration lanes on Sunday, Oct. 21. Remaining work elements include installing cable barrier and shoulder repairs.
Work Schedule: While acceleration lanes are now open, minor work will continue through the week of Oct. 29. Drivers can expect daytime single-lane closures in both directions of US 101 and a reduced speed limit of 40 mph. Project web page

US 101/Kennedy Creek Bridges – Special RepairHighway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 356.5
Description: Crews will repair supports that elevate both US 101 bridges over Kennedy Creek.
Work Schedule: Drivers may encounter day and night shoulder closures and right lane closures in both directions. The project is scheduled to be complete fall 2018.

SR 8 – Middle and East Forks Wildcat Creek – Remove Fish Barriers
Highway: SR 8 Region: Olympic County: Grays Harbor Location: Milepost(s) 4.3 to 7.5
Description: The eastbound lanes were reconfigured to accommodate both directions of traffic to allow crews to replace outdated culverts under SR 8 to improve fish passage for Middle and East Fork Wildcat Creek.
Work Schedule: Work is now substantially complete. Nearly six months ahead of schedule, crews have finished replacing outdated culverts under SR 8 and reopened SR 108 in McCleary. Travelers on SR 8 are now driving over four new bridges that span Middle and East Forks of Wildcat Creek for improved fish passage. The speed limit has also been restored to 60 mph.


Highway: SR 3 vicinity Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 1 to 3
Description: The City of Shelton has various projects off SR 3 towards downtown Shelton occurring over the next few months. View their project webpage for more information about detours and lane closures.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 306-310; 312-315
Description: One-way alternating traffic with flaggers as utility crews for Kemp West perform hazard tree removal.
Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22 – Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Highway: SR 108 Region: Olympic County: Mason Location: Milepost(s) 9.7 to 11.8
Description: Utility crews for Mason County will raise existing power lines along SR 108 between Hurley Waldrop Road and the US 101 interchange. Weather permitting, drivers may encounter one-way alternating traffic with flaggers and should expect minor delays.
Work Schedule: Weekdays beginning 8 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29 – Thursday, Feb. 28. No work will occur on weekends nor on:

Highway: SR 302 Region: Olympic County: Pierce Location: Milepost(s) 10.6 to 11.3
Description: Peninsula Light is relocating various utilities in preparation for the SR 302 Minters Creeks fish passage project. Overnight drivers will see shoulder closures and may encounter a one way alternating traffic controlled by flaggers.
Work Schedule: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Friday, Oct. 21 through Nov. 19.

Highway: SR 302 Region: Olympic County: Pierce Location: Milepost(s) 11.4 to11.6
Description: Peninsula Light is working on existing electrical lines crossing SR 302 at the 118th Avenue NW intersection. Drivers will see daytime occasional stops as needed controlled by flaggers.
Work Schedule: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday Nov. 5.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Jefferson Location: Milepost(s) 306-315
Description: One-way alternating traffic with flaggers as utility crews for Kemp West perform hazard tree removal.
Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22 – Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic  County: Jefferson  Location: Milepost(s) 311
Description: Guardrail repair on southbound US 101. Daytime drivers will see alternating one lane traffic controlled by flaggers.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5.

Highway: US 101 Region: Olympic County: Jefferson Location: Milepost(s) 285 to 295
Description: Utilities crews for Jefferson County PUD will conduct routine tree trimming. Drivers can expect one-way alternating traffic with flaggers during operations.
Work Schedule: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each weekday beginning Monday, Nov. 5. Through Friday, Nov. 30. No work on Nov. 21, 22 and 23 for Thanksgiving holiday.
