The unemployment rate in Mason County dropped in September to the lowest rate since 2006. According to Washington State Employment Security, the county’s unemployment rate in September was 5.5 percent, down four-tenths of the percentage point from the revised rate for August of 5.9 percent and down six-tenths from September 2017’s rate of 6.1 percent. The September 2018 rate is the lowest unemployment rate in Mason County since October 2006.
Adjacent counties also saw drops in unemployment in September. Jefferson County (4.9%) saw a decrease of one-tenth of a percent. Kitsap County (4.1%) saw its unemployment rate drop two-tenths. Thurston County (4.1%) was a three-tenths of a percent decrease in unemployment rate last month. Grays Harbor (5.5%) and Pierce(4.4%) counties saw drops of four-tenths of a percent in September. But the larges drop was in Lewis County where unemployment declined seven-tenths of a percent to 5.2 percent.
