Sheriff Vehicle Involved in Mason Lake Crash

A Shelton woman was injured in a two-vehicle collision on Mason Lake Road Saturday that involved a Mason County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle. According to the State Patrol, a 2014 Ford Explorer – a fully marked Mason County patrol vehicle – pulled onto the shoulder of eastbound Mason Lake Road at milepost 4 about 1:50 PM. The deputy driving then attempted to make a U-turn and an eastbound 2010 Toyota Scion collided with the driver’s side of the Explorer.

CORRECTION: The Explorer collided with the passenger side of the eastbound 2010 Toyota Scion.

A passenger in the Scion, Leigh A. Sanford, 62 of Shelton, was transported to Mason General Hospital.

The driver of the Scion, Daniel D. Sanford, 69 of Shelton, and the deputy, Duain P. Dugan, 58 of Shelton, were not injured.

Both vehicles sustain “reportable” damage. The patrol vehicle was driven from the scene while the Toyota was towed away.

The State Patrol is investigating.
