Mason County’s unemployment rate inched up slightly in August. According to Washington State Employment Security, the County’s unemployment last month was 6 percent, up two-tenths of a percentage point from July’s revised rate of 5.8 percent. However, the unemployment rate is down one-tenth of a percent from August 2017.
Three adjacent counties showed no change in unemployment in August: Grays Harbor (5.9%), Kitsap (4.3%) and Thurston (4.4%) held steady. Pierce County saw a one-tenth of a percent increase to 4.9 percent. Lewis County crept up two-tenths to 5.8 percent. But Jefferson County saw a three-tenths of a percentage point drop in unemployment in August.
