Firefighters battled another wildfire in Mason County Wednesday, this time on John’s Prairie. The Johns Prairie Fire was first reported about 8:30 PM and prompted a Level 2 evacuation for homes between Atlas Pellets and MCRA. Johns Prairie Road was closed while fire crews (which included local and DNR engines, two helicopters and hand crews) responded. Firefighters were able to build a line around the fire within an hour and a half after the fire burned a little over an acre and two outbuildings.
The Mason County Sheriff’s Office is requesting help from citizens with the high number of fires in the County. Authorities ask everyone to call 9-1-1 if you see a fire and no emergency personnel are on scene. Investigators ask that you take photos or video of the fire as long as it is safe. Also, officials remind residents, if you see anything suspicious let them know as soon as possible.
