An Adams County man was arrested Monday after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, stealing a truck, and fleeing police. According to a news release, at approximately 11 AM, Shelton Police officers were investigating a domestic violence incident that occurred Sunday night on Fairmount Avenue. While officers were speaking with the female victim about her boyfriend who had committed the assault, they noticed the suspect at the apartment complex. Before officers could detain him, he fled the scene.
At approximately 12:45 PM, officers located the suspect riding a bicycle on Walker Park Road. As the officers approached him, the suspect jumped in a large truck that had been left running in a driveway with a trailer attached. The suspect then fled in the stolen vehicle pulling the trailer. As the officers hurried back to their vehicles, they were notified of a collision involving a truck and trailer near the intersection of Arcadia Road and Walker Park Road. The caller reported that the truck had caused the collision and then fled the scene along Arcadia in the damaged truck.
Shelton Officers were joined by Mason County Sheriff Deputies and the stolen vehicle was quickly located in a wooded area off of Lynch Road but the suspect was not with the truck. Officers and Deputies tracked the suspect to a nearby house in the 8000 block of Lynch Road where he was found hiding. It appears the suspect knew the occupants of the home and he was arrested without further incident.
The suspect has several outstanding warrants from Adams County, and is not a Shelton area resident. He has been booked into Mason County Jail for an assortment of charges. His name is be being withheld pending formal charges.
While the stolen vehicle was severely damaged, only minor injuries were reported to those involved in the collision.
