The unemployment rate in Mason County dropped slightly in May. The State Employment Security Department says the revised rate for the County last month was 6.4 percent. That’s down two-tenths of a percentage point from April’s revised rate of 6.6 percent and down one-tenth from May 2016’s rate of 6.5 percent.
Adjacent counties saw decreases in unemployment in May with Grays Harbor County seeing the largest drop: six-tenths of a percent to 6.5 percent. Jefferson County saw it’s unemployment decrease a half percent to 5.9 percent. Lewis County dropped four-tenths of a percent to 6.2 percent. There were two-tenths percent drops in Kitsap and Thurston counties – both to 4.7 percent. And Pierce County dropped one-tenth of a percent to 5.2 percent.
