1 Injured, 1 Arrested after Shooting at Shelton Bar

A 21-year-old Shelton man has been arrested for Assault with a Firearm after a shooting at a bar located in the 300 Block of South 1st Street in downtown Shelton.

Patrol units were dispatched to the bar at around 1:20 AM after several 911 calls were received stating that a patron was firing a gun. Prior to arrival, the suspect fled in a green Mazda sedan. Shelton Officers located the suspect a mile from the scene and attempted a high risk stop. The suspect was uncooperative with Police, but no shots were fired, and no one was injured during the arrest. The firearm believed to have been used in the crime was located at the scene.

“We are confident that all suspects and weapons have been accounted for, and that there is no underlying threat to the community at this time,” said Captain Mike Fiola, “We are lucky no one was killed.”

According to witnesses as the scene, the suspect was intoxicated and causing problems inside the bar when management asked him to leave. A short time later, the suspect was observed standing outside the business shooting into the bar through an open door.
Several rounds were located inside the business; luckily nobody was hit directly. One patron inside the bar was hit with shrapnel. Their injuries are non-life threatening.

The firearm used appears to have been lawfully possessed, and the suspect does have a valid concealed carry license. Washington State law prohibits firearms inside a bar, even if you have a concealed carry license.

The Shelton man was booked into the Mason County Jail for Assault with a Firearm, Driving Under the Influence, and Resisting Arrest. Police are withholding the identity of the alleged shooter pending formal charges being filed by the Mason County Prosecutor.

Any witnesses are urged to contact Shelton Police Detectives at 360-426-4441, Case # 18-S05974.
