MMK’s Sowle & Frost Take State Crowns

At the Class 1B State Track and Field Championships, Mary M. Knight’s Kaylee Sowle and Ian Frost repeated as champions.

Sowle took the title in four events: the 100 meters with a time of 13.35 seconds; the high jump with a height of 5 feet 8 inches; the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 8.25 inches (a season record); and the triple jump with a distance of 35 feet, 2.25 inches (a personal record).

Frost won the discus again with a throw of 169 feet. The senor Owl also placed 5th in the shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 5.5 inches.

MMK freshman Isaiah Compton placed 6th in the State in the discus with a throw of 117 feet 1 inch.

Austin Fries placed 8th in the State in the triple jump with a distance of 38 feet 3.25 inches.

In the team standings, the Mary M. Knight girls placed 5th in the state while the boys from Matlock were 15th.

At the Class 2A State Track and Field Championships, North Mason’s Lily Campbell finished 4th in the state in the girls’ discus with a throw of 119 feet, 4 inches; placed 8th in the state in the javelin with a throw of 120 feet, 8 inches; and set a personal record in the shot put at 35 feet, 7 inches placing 9th.

Shelton had three place at the Class 3A State Track and Field Championships.

McKenzie Salazar-Fox placed 5th in the state in the shot put with a personal record throw of 40 feet, 10.75 inches.

Highclimber freshman Victoria Silverman took 6th in the 300-meter hurdels with a personal record time of 45.53 seconds.

Trinity Payment finished 7th in the state in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 4.75 inches (a personal record).
