The Shelton baseball team won two Saturday in the Class 3A West Central District 3 / Southwest District 4 Tournament. The Highclimbers first held on for a 7 to 6 victory over Evergreen. Then shut out Timberline 5 to 0.
In the game against the Plainsmen, Shelton pounded out 12 hits, building a 7 to 1 lead. The ‘Climbers scored two in the first inning (Caeleb Hitsman score on an error, Brenden Engstrom batted in Ty Smotherman), one in the third (Max “Falcon” Johnson hit a two-out double that scored Ty Smotherman), and four in the fifth (Hitsman scored on a Falcon Johnson ground ball, Ty Smotherman scored by stealing home, Josh Deemer scored on a fly ball by Max Johnson, and Zach Jonker stole home). Brenden Engstrom replaced Falcon Johnson on the mound in the sixth inning and gave up one run in the sixth and four runs in the seventh.
Falcon Johnson went 3 for 4 at the plate with two RBI and two doubles.
Caeleb Hitsman was 3 for 4 and scored two runs.
Ty Smotherman went 2 for 4 with a double and scored three runs.
Matthew Osbert was 2 for 3.
Max Johnson and Brenden Engstrom each batted in a run.
Falcon Johnson picked up the win, pitching five innings allowing one run on three hits, striking out two and walking two.
In the game against the Blazers, Max Johnson pitched a one hitter for the Highclimbers. After giving up a lead off single, Johnson and the Shelton defense retired the next 18 batters. Johnson hit the lead off batter in the 7th and then retired the next three batters, striking out the final batter for his only strike out.
Offensively, Caeleb Hitsman batted in Josh Deemer and Wade Smotherman scored on Brenden Engstrom’s sacrifice fly in the third inning. Trey Dehning hit a triple in the fourth inning and then stole home while Timberline caught Deemer trying to steal 2nd. With two out in the top of the seventh, Hitsman and Ty Smotherman walked. Engstrom then batted in Hitsman and Smotherman scored on an error.
Engstrom was 2 for 3 at the plate with two RBI and a triple.
Hitsman was 1 for 3 with an RBI and scored a run.
Ty Smotherman, Trey Dehning and Wade Smotherman each had a hit.

The Highclimbers play Gig Harbor at 1 PM, May 12 at Heidelberg Park in Tacoma.
The Tides shut out Bethel 13 to 0 Saturday and then got by Kelso 9 to 5.
Shelton swept the Gig Harbor in two games during the regular season. The Highclimbers beat the Tides 8 to 4 on March 27th and 6 to 5 on March 28th.
