Pioneer Announces New Superintendent

The Pioneer School District Board of Directors announced Thursday the District’s new Superintendent: John Gummel. Mr. Gummel is currently the principal of Kelso High School and was recently named Washington’s 2018 High School Principal of the Year.

The Pioneer School Board unanimous selected Gummel at its April 25th school board meeting. Board members shared, “Mr. Gummel comes to us with high regards from his current superintendent and staff of Kelso High School. John’s interaction with Pioneer staff and students while here on campus was nothing short of amazing.”

A news release states that the Board also saw his strength in building relationships with staff and community and increasing student achievement. “We fully expect Mr. Gummel to bring that same dedication to Pioneer School District.”

Mr. Gummel will begin as Pioneer’s Superintendent on July 1, 2018. He replaces Marty Brewer, who accepted the superintendent position at Port Angeles School District.
