[VIDEO] The Port of Shelton is still evaluating what next steps they will take on the future of Oakland Bay Marina. The Port held three public forums on the Shelton marina last month with 71 people attending. During the forums, Port officials explained that the marina’s south dock needs repairs that are estimated to cost close to $3 Million. Officials also provided possible options including borrowing money to repair the dock, increasing moorage rates to fund those repairs, selling the Shelton marina or creating a public/private partnership to management and/or develop the marina.
Tuesday, the Port’s Executive Director, Wendy Smith, summarized what came out of the forums for the Port Commission.
Commissioner Sue Patterson believes the Port needs to better at informing the public about the marina.
Commissioner Kristy Buck agreed with Patterson but wants answers to several questions including whether a restaurant could be located at the marina as has been suggested and the marina appraised.
Commissioner Dick Taylor also has questions but would like to hear from more than just marina supporters.
No decisions have been made on the future of Oakland Bay Marina. An online survey could be on of the next steps and the possibility of an advisory vote was also discussed.
