Paddy McGuire, a nationally recognized election expert, announced his candidacy for Mason County Auditor. McGuire is a resident of Harstine Island and seeks to ensure access to the ballot for all eligible Mason County citizens.
McGuire served as Oregon’s Deputy Secretary of State from 2000 to 2007, successfully implementing the first all vote-by-mail Presidential election and overseeing the development of the Oregon Centralized Voter Registration System. From 2010 to 2014, he served as Deputy Director of the Federal Voting Assistance Program, the Department of Defense agency charged with ensuring that Service members, their families and citizens living overseas get to vote, wherever they are in the world. Currently, McGuire is a private election consultant whose clients include the Military Officers Association of America and the Democracy Fund. He is also a published author and editor of a book on direct democracy, including the initiative, referendum and recall process.
McGuire, 59, is a member of the Board of Directors of the Shelton Rotary Club, the Water Resources Inventory Area 14 Citizen’s Committee and the Hamilton College Alumni Council.
The official candidate filing period for this fall’s election is May 14th to May 18th. The Primary Election is August 7th. The General Election is November 6th.
