SHS Softball Wins, Baseball Loses; Losses for NM Baseball, Softball & Soccer
The Shelton fast pitch softball team pulled away from North Kitsap in the third inning and took the non-league game 9 to 1 Friday.

The Vikings scored first with a run in the second inning on a wild pitch. The Lady Highclimbers responded in their half of the second when Patricia Dugger hit a two out single to score Maleah Walsh.
Shelton blew the game open in the third inning scoring five runs that started with a two-out, bases loaded single by Angelea Wirstrom that scored Kamryn Nyland and Maleah Walsh. Patricia Dugger then doubled to score Molly DelaCruz. Erica Ayala reached first on an error that scored Wirstrom and Dugger before she was caught trying to take second.
The ‘Climbers added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, taking advantage of an error that allowed Taya Gouley and Alyssa Jorgensen to score.
Shelton added an insurance run in the sixth inning when Alexander Walters batted in Jorgenson.
Dugger went 2 for 3 with a double, two RBI and scored a run.
Wirstrom was 1 for 3, batting in two runs and scoring a run.
Walsh was 1 for 2 with a double.
Hyland was 2 for 3 with two doubles.
Gouley was 2 for 4.
And Walters batted in a run and picked up the win, pitching seven innings allowin one run on three hits while striking out seven and walking three.
The Highclimbers improve to 8-and-8 on the season. They return to South Sound Conference play Monday at home against Gig Harbor.
The Shelton baseball team was victim to a walk off sacrifice fly in the eighth inning Friday as the Highclimbers lost at Capital 5 to 4.
The game was back-and-forth with the Highclimbers scoring first on a Max “Falcon” Johnson single that scored Zach Jonker in the first inning.
The Cougars responded in their half of the first scoring two runs to take a 2 to 1 lead that held until the fifth inning when Ty Smotherman hit a double that scored Blaine VanAagten and Caeleb Hitsman.
Capital tied the game in their half the fifth.
Shelton took back the lead in the sixth inning on a sacrfice bunt by Max Johnson that scored Falcon Johnson.
Capital tied the game once again in their half of the sixth.
The ‘Climbers had a chance to take back the lead in the seventh inning but left two runners on base (one in scoring position).
In the eighth inning, Shelton’s Max Johnson walked with two outs but Austin Ramsfield struck out leaving the go-ahead run at first.
Smotherman led the ‘Climbers in the loss going 2 for 2 at the plate, wilth a double and two RBI.
Falcon Johnson and Max Johnson each batted in a run.
Shelton dropped to 12-and-7 on the season, 6-and-7 in the South Sound Conference. The Highclimbers are still tied with Yelm for fifth in the conference as the Tornadoes also lost Friday. The North Mason baseball team lost at Port Angeles Friday 9 to 5. The Bulldogs were led in the loss by Kimball who went 2 for 3 at the plate, batting in two runs and scoring two runs. And Borah was 1 for 3 with an RBI. The boys from Belfair dropped to 6-and-13 on the season, 4-and-7 in the Olympic League and in fifth place in the standing, a half game behind Kingston who currently hold the fourth and final playoff spot. NM wraps up the regular season Monday at the Buccaneers.
The North Mason boys’ soccer team was shut out by Port Angeles Friday two-nil (2 to 0). The Bulldogs drop to 3-9-and-2 on the season, 2-and-9 in the Olympic League. The boys from Belfair wrap up the season at Kingston Friday.
The North Mason fast pitch softball team was pounded by Port Angeles 15 to 0 Friday. The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 4-and-12 on the season, 2-and-7 in the Olympic League. The girls from Belfair travel to Kingston Monday.
