High School Sports Results from 4/18/18

SHS Baseball Falls; NM Baseball & Tennis Win, Softball Falls

The Shelton baseball team lost to Central Kitsap Wednesday in eight innings 4 to 2.
The Cougars scored a run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Carson Wiler.
The Highclimbers answered in the fourth when Maurice Castro singled on a fly ball to left field to drive in Brenden Engstrom with two outs.
CK took back the lead in the fifth inning on a solo home run by Teagan Taafe.
In the sixth inning, Shelton loaded the bases and Ty Smotherman tied the game at 2-2 on a wild pitch but the ‘Climbers left two runners in scoring position.
In the top of the extra inning, the Cougars took advantage of Shelton’s decision to load the bases on three walks – two intentional – and managed to get two outs before a ground ball single by Rylee Orteza drove in what turned out to be the winning runs.
The Highclimbers were led in the loss by Brenden Engstrom who went 2 for 4 at the plate and scored a run. Ty Smotherman was 1 for 4 and scored a run. Maurice Castro went 1 for 4 with and RBI. Max “Falcon” Johnson went 1 for 3. And Max Johnson was 1 for 3.
On the mound, Falcon Johnson took the loss in relief of Max Johnson. Falcon pitched three and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on one hit, striking out eight and walking three.
Central Kitsap swept Shelton in their two games this season and the loss drops Shelton into a tie with Timberline for fifth place in the South Sound Conference. The Highclimbers are now 4-and-5 in the SSC, 10-and-5 overall.
Shelton has a make up game against the Blazers Friday. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC will broadcast the game live from Highclimber Field. First Pitch is 4 PM. This game was originally scheduled for April 11th and was postponed by weather three times.

The North Mason baseball team beat Sequim 11 to 6 Wednesday, picking up their second Olympic League win. The Bulldogs are now 3-and-10 on the season, 2-and-4 in the league. The boys from Belfair travel to Bremerton Thursday.

The North Mason girls’ tennis team knocked off Klahowya 6 to 1 Wednesday. The Lady Bulldogs travel to Kingston Friday.

The North Mason fast pitch softball team lost at Sequim Wednesday 14 to 3 in the five innings. Amber Johnson led the Lady Bulldogs in the loss going 2 for 3 at the plate with a triple and an RBI. Jordin Sullivan was 1 for 2. And Corlise Newman batted in a run. The girls from Belfair are 2-and-9 on the season, 0-and-4 in the Olympic League. They travel to Bremerton Thursday.
