The Shelton City Commission is hiring a new recruitment firm to conduct the search for the City’s next City Manager. In the past, the City has utilized the services of The Prothman Company but Tuesday night decided to go with Slavin Management Consultants.
Prothman helped Shelton fill several key positions in the past including City Administrator (now City Manager) and Police Chief dating back to the hiring of Dave O’Leary. However, the Commission believes they need a fresh perspective.
The City requested recruitment proposals from seven firms and received three. Prothman’s proposal had a cost of $15,000. Slaven’s recruitment is not to exceed $23,347.50. And the third proposal came from Waldron Business Management Consultants at a cost of $26,000.
The Commissioners selected Slaven for their “middle of the road” cost and to get a “new set of eyes” on recruiting.
Slaven will first meet with Commissioners, key staff and other key people in the community to develop the Position Profile (Community, Goals and Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities). A draft profile and salary range recommendation are expected by the end of the month.
In mid-May the City Council will be sworn in and take over the recruitment. The Council will review and approve the final Position Profile and salary range. Applications would then be accepted until mid-June with selection of finalists for interviews in July. This will likely include public participation.
