SHS Baseball Wins, Rugby Falls
The Shelton baseball team held off Yelm Saturday 9 to 6 at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma. The Highclimbers gave up one run in the first inning but scored three runs in the third inning and were up 6 to 1 after the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, the Tornados cut into that lead with two runs. Yelm added two more runs in the sixth inning and Shelton’s lead was cut to one runs (6 to 5). The ‘Climbers added three insurance runs in the seventh inning and the Tornados only managed one run in their half of the final inning.
Max “Falcon” Johnson going 2 for 3 at the plate with four RBI, two doubles, and scored two runs.
Brenden Engstrom was also 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and scored two runs.
Trey Dehning, Blaine Van Aagten and Max Johnson also batted in a run each.
Austin Ramsfield started the game on the mound, pitched four innings allowing one run on two hits and striking out one.
Brenden Engstrom closed the game pitching one and two thirds innings allowing one runs on one hit, striking out five and walking two. .
Shelton takes over the top spot in the South Sound Conference with a 9-and-1 overall record, 4-and-1 in the SSC. The Highclimbers host Yelm Monday.
Shelton RFC has yet to win a game this season while the Crusaders are undefeated. Shelton’s next rugby match is April 14th when they host the Liberty Patriots.
