SHS Baseball Wins in Ten, Softball Falls in Eight; NM Boys’ Golf Wins, Baseball & Softball Fall.
The Shelton baseball team need ten innings to complete the season sweep of Gig Harbor Wednesday as the Highclimbers beat the Tides 6 to 5. Trey Dehning hit a walk off sacrifice fly to right field with one out and the bases loaded and Caeleb Hitsman scored from third base as Shelton improved to 7-and-1 on the season, 3-and-1 in the South Sound Conference. The ‘Climbers scored first with two runs in the third inning. The Tides responded with a run in the fourth and a run in the fifth to tie the game before taking advantage of throwing errors in the sixth inning, scoring three runs to take a 5 to 2 lead. Shelton responded in their half of the sixth also taking advantage of errors to score three runs with two outs and tying the game at 5.
The Highclimbers then went to the bullpen to close out the game. Austin Ramsfield pitcher two and a third innings in relief of Ty Smoterman who took over for Max Johnson in the fifth inning. Ramsfield allowed one hit and struck out four. Max “Falcon” Johnson reliefed Ramsfiedl in the nineth inning and retired six of the eight batters he faced with five strike outs and one walk. Falcon picked up the win in relief.
As for Shelton’s batting, Dehning was 2 for 4 with a doulbe and the winning RBI. Wade Smomtherman was 1 for 5, scored a run and batted in a run. Ty Smotherman went 1 for 3 and scored a run. Caelbe Hitsman was 1 for 5 and scored two runs.
Shelton plays at Lakes Thursday and returns to South Sound Conference play Saturday at Cheney Stadium against Yelm.
The Shelton fast pitch softball team lost a heart breaker Wednesday falling to North Thurston in eight innings16 to 11. The Lady Rams were up 3-0 before the Highclimbers scored their first run in the third inning. NT added three more runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth and were up 10 to 3 heading into the bottom of the sixth when Shelton exploded for eight runs to take an 11 to 10 lead. The Rams evened the game with a run in the seventh. In the eighth, North Thurston knocked in five runs, improving to 4-and-2 on the season. Alyssa Jorgensen led the Highclimbers with a home runs and three RBI. Taya Gouley also batted in three runs. Shelton drops to 2-and-4 on the season, 1-and-2 in the South Sound Conference. They play at Lakes Thursday and host River Ridge on Friday. MasonWebTV Powered by HCC will broadcast the game against the Hawks.
The North Mason baseball team lost at North Kitsap Wednesday 3 to 1. The Bulldogs are now 2-and-8 on the season, 1-and-2 in the Olympic League. The boys from Belfair host Port Angeles Friday.
The North Mason fast pitch softball team gave up a single in the sixth inning that scored the winning run in a 3 to 2 loss at North Kitsap Wednesday. The Lady Bulldogs were led in the loss by Taylor Hendrickson who was 3 for 4 at the plate. Rebekah Fredrickson went 2 for 4 with two RBI. Jordin Sullivan was also 2 for 4. And Amber Johnson scored both runs for the girls from Belfair. North Mason is now 2-and-7 on the season, 0-and-2 in the Olympic League. The Bulldogs host Port Angeles Friday.
